Job #1: Summon the Best of Who You Are
Mar 06, 2024If you’re like me, personal development is a core value, and something to be pursued daily, weekly, monthly, always. It took me a long time to realize that I was in the minority with this, that most people’s automatic pilot is not aspirational. And that’s okay.
But, if you are with me, you may be asking the question: How do we make self-improvement a way of life? Here are nine guidelines for following the path of personal development:
- Summon the intention for self-improvement on a regular basis. Elevate its importance. In other words, invest in yourself.
- Identify the best of who you are. How do you describe yourself when you are at your very best? How often are you that person?
- Remember that just because things are hard, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. Lean into the struggle.
- Give yourself some grace. You are a work in progress, after all; we all are.
- Tap into your superpowers. What are they? They are the traits that have led you to success over and over in life. How are you using them right now?
- Be aware of yourself and how you are thinking and feeling in the moment. Engage in self-regulation of thoughts and feelings to stay in that field of intention.
- Activate your social influence, the ability to impact other people. Most of us have more than we ever realize, and we can build it over time. (Think about Clark Kent becoming Superman).
- Engage in service to others. Notice what other people need and be determined to make a difference for them. Remember what Zig Zigler taught us: You will achieve everything you want in life if you help enough other people achieve what they want.
- Connect and align with a greater power. Your guiding spirit, god, universal energy, collective conscious – whatever it is for you. Align yourself with the forces for good.
